Scalable Verint System Delivers Evidentiary Quality Video Recordings to Mitigate Prisoner Management Liabilities
BRAMPTON, ONTARIO, March 7, 2011 — SDI (System Development.Integration, LLC), a systems integrator specializing in public sector security technologies and infrastructure, announces that it has delivered a turnkey Digital Video Management System (DVMS) spanning all 5 Divisions of the Peel Regional Police Department. The new system will continuously capture prisoner activity from intake to release, including holding facility movements, and is expected to reduce the overall number of false claims filed against police officers, as alleged incidents can be easily analyzed against stored video.
SDI, under prime contractor EMC, designed the DVMS system to deliver seamless visual coverage of all prisoner processing areas, eliminating blind spots as well as significantly enhancing the quality of captured video images for future investigative or courtroom purposes. The SDI Team conducted Concept of Operations exercises with Division Operations and Evidentiary Property Bureau teams to drive functional requirements of the DVMS, including recommended camera counts, placement, and storage policies. To validate that the system would satisfy Peel’s technical and functional requirements, SDI installed and configured industry-leading Nextiva® Digital Video Management System from Verint® Video Intelligence Solutions™ in a test lab environment in Peel’s main data center. The SDI Team successfully conducted User Acceptance Testing prior to rollout to the first Division, along with system administrator and customized train-the-trainer classes to ensure seamless system operation and internal technical support.
Teaming with local partners Safe Controls, Inc. and Cable Ready Systems, Inc., SDI replaced all legacy analog cameras, installed additional IP cameras to ensure full surveillance coverage, and changed out the old CCTV monitoring equipment with new dual-display workstations supporting the Nextiva graphical user interface. The SDI Team implemented the Department’s video recording and retention policy on the EMC Storage Area Network (SAN). To further meet Peel’s business continuity goals, SDI developed and implemented a custom application to ensure each Division could continue to monitor live video even in the event of an enterprise network outage.
The immediate and wide-spread acceptance of the Nextiva system by the end users prompted Peel to upgrade additional exterior cameras. SDI deployed new and upgraded video cameras, both fixed and PTZ, around the exterior of four of the Division facilities and parking areas, all integrated with the DVMS system.
SDI offered Peel over 20 years of experience in deploying large-scale, mission-critical security technology systems within a live government entity. “Our knowledge of public safety operations, CONOPS-driven design process, and ability to customize video applications and interfaces allow SDI to deliver video imagery that is exactly the right resolution and coverage for a particular operation,” said Mark Moscinski, SDI Senior Vice President of Safety and Security. The SDI Team was selected based on the combination of its government industry qualifications; proven project management and deployment approach; strength of the Verint technical solution; and best overall financial value to Peel Regional Police Department.
