Embedded SDI Security/IT Teams Deliver Systems Uptime, Guide Evolution of Complex Aviation Security Platform

CHICAGO, May 28, 2015 – SDI (SDI Solutions LLC), a mission-critical IT systems integrator, announces that the City of Chicago Department of Aviation has renewed its contract to provide technical support and maintenance of its Integrated Safety, Security, and Operations Communications and Control System (ISSOCCS) program. The five year contract oversees the access control, video surveillance, public safety, and aviation security functions at Midway International Airport and O’Hare International Airport, which was named as the world’s busiest airport in January 2015 according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

With the ever-evolving nature of aviation security and the extensive physical changes underway as part of O’Hare Airport’s modernization program, the Department of Aviation is challenged with managing its security technology environment to 100% uninterrupted availability; keeping current with the latest proven technologies; and complying with federal directives. The Department required a dedicated, responsive partner to continuously and proactively install, maintain, repair, and provide comprehensive technical support and spare parts management of ISSOCCS’ core access control, ID badging, video surveillance, and computer-aided dispatch systems. The ISSOCCS program also includes access control hardware, intercoms, CCTV cameras, broadband LAN systems, an uninterrupted power source, and recording systems. ISSOCCS is further integrated with extensive door, gate, lock, video, and ID badge readers and acts as a comprehensive, interactive system, operated at both airports. These components, systems, sub-systems, and peripheral devices must function together on a 24/7 basis, and are subject to frequent change, with shifts in operational, security, public safety, technical, and regulatory requirements, as well as emerging technologies and update requirements.

The City selected SDI to proactively manage, update, upgrade and maintain ISSOCCS, based on the firm’s technical approach, delivery methodology, qualifications and experience. Governed by its low-risk and responsive service delivery model, SDI has concurrently delivered project-based security integration services in the live ISSOCCS environment, while delivering 100% SLA compliance and no unplanned downtime since 2005. SDI’s embedded team delivers comprehensive security technology operation, design, implementation, support and maintenance services for ISSOCCS hardware (including computers/servers, displays, sensors, cameras, and peripheral devices) and software (including operating systems, custom/tailored applications, and “off-the-shelf” software). SDI’s hybrid of security and IT professionals are versed in aviation standards including Transportation Security Agency (TSA) Regulations (TSRs) parts 1542 and 1544 and FAA Regulations (FAR) 139; the firm is an active member of aviation and security technology industry groups including ACI, AAAE and ASIS, all of which informs the firm’s trusted advisory services for its portfolio of aviation clients.

"We are pleased that the City continues to put its critical security platform in the capable hands of the SDI Team,” states Dave Sullivan, SDI Chief Executive Officer. “We look forward to working with CDA to evolve its security technology program to address future threats and cost-effectively leverage emerging technology.”
