This month we are shining our Employee Spotlight on Will Davis, an Operations Manager at SDI, and a family man who finds inspiration in the support of his loved ones.
What is your current role?
I’m currently the Operations Manager on a Major Midwest Transit Authority project where we are the IT Managed Services provider.
How did you get your start here at SDI?
I received a call from a close friend who was working for SDI, and he informed me of an opportunity. This led me to start my career here at SDI as a Systems Administrator in 1997, working on a Major Midwest Parking support project.
What is your current focus/project?
My current focus is ensuring that the best quality of service is delivered daily and meeting the expectations of our customer. I’m currently collaborating with the client regarding a massive hardware implementation project.
What are some of the changes you have seen here at SDI since you started?
The tremendous growth of the company, our culture, our diversity, and the number of wins and expansions into territories outside of Chicago have all changed SDI quite a bit since the late ‘90s
How have you grown professionally while on our team?
I have had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, collaborate and learn from managers and team members while supporting different system platforms. Training has been a big part in my professional growth.
What has been your biggest accomplishments on your team?
Longevity. I have maintained my tenure on my current project since 2005. In this role, I have completed high-profile projects before the scheduled end date and/or on time. I have also had the opportunity to provide mentorship and maintain the high level of customer service to our client.
What’s the most unique thing about working for SDI?
What I find unique is the general concern for the employees working here from the Executives and Management. When comparing work/life balance and differences with others, SDI usually comes out on top.
What would you say inspires you?
It’s simple; my family inspires me. The love and support I receive helps to push me along.
Each day is a new day to be better than what you were yesterday!
How do you wind down after work?
After enjoying a nice meal prepared by my wife (I’m not the cook in our family), I find my way to my favorite chair and grab the remote to watch a game, a movie, or one of many streaming shows.
How do you describe what you do for a living to family and friends?
Great question! Over the length of my career, it has changed from PC repair tech, systems and network administrator, technical support, etc. Now I describe my job as an IT Manager overseeing the help desk support staff.
