SDI Employee Spotlight - Deep Malhotra, Delivery Executive

SDI Employee Spotlight - Deep Malhotra, Delivery Executive

On this page:
Heading

At SDI, we believe in our employees and take pride in helping them to grow careers that enrich their lives. This month, our ongoing Employee Spotlight series focuses on Deep Malhotra, for whom the feeling is mutual. Her belief in SDI goes way back to the very beginning, when we were the new firm in town.

What is your current focus/project?

My focus has been aviation, public safety, and identity management solutions for quite some time. Currently, I am the Delivery Executive for the Aviation, Safety and Security Division of a major city's aviation department.

What is your team like?

I have a talented team, a good mix of young and experienced team members with versatile knowledge in access control, video management, and emergency managements solutions.  My team is fun loving, energetic, and motivated; we all want to learn every day.

How did you get your start at SDI?

I joined SDI during the infancy of the firm, as a consultant, to develop the billing system for a large natural gas distribution company. I liked the team culture so much that within a few months, I decided to switch to SDI as an employee – and the rest is history.

What significant change(s) have you have seen in the industry since you started?

Answering this question means once again admitting that I am not young anymore.

I’m a software developer at heart, and the basic principles of software development have stayed the same over the years, just taken different names. Creating prototypes and improving software have become “sprints” and “scrums.” The processes for continuous software delivery that were followed 20+ years ago are similar as well, but now we call them DevOps.

What is the most unique thing about working for SDI?

SDI has emphasized the importance of work/life balance and individual health since its inception. All companies provide basic health insurance but having programs to encourage healthy habits is special. That’s not something very many businesses invest in.

What professional accomplishment(s) are you most proud of?

I’m most proud of helping expand SDI’s aviation footprint with a large metropolitan city on the west coast.

If you had a chance to dedicate six months to only one project, what would it be?

Standardization. For every project, standards and naming conventions are decided and documented for various data elements, but over time, that consistency gets lost; you wind up with artifacts that do not follow the chosen conventions, or the team expands the project standards but forgets to document changes.

Are there any professions other than your own that you’d like to try?

I love the power of data, so possibly a career in financial sector.

If you could share a meal with any celebrity or historical figure, who would you choose and why?

My first thought was Princess Diana, but I would be so in awe of her beauty that it would be a silent meal! I also thought about Indira Gandhi, the first and only female Prime Minister of India, because that would be an awesome political conversation. Then, I thought about Lucille Ball from “I Love Lucy.” I remember watching her when I was growing up and thoroughly enjoying the show; having dinner with her would also be fun! Now, if I could get all three at the dinner table, that would be a blast.

Halloween is coming up soon; what is your favorite candy?

Almond Joy is my favorite candy for Halloween, and I enjoy it during this time.

Stay tuned to the SDI blog to see who we’ll spotlight in November! In the meantime, CONTACT US to learn more about how SDI can help with your ITSM-related needs.

We celebrate diversity; the views expressed above are those of the interviewed individual, not SDI.
