Firm Joins Chicago Apprentice Network, Hires First Apprentice as Full-Time SDI Employee
Chicago, IL – May 23, 2019 – IT managed services provider (MSP) and consultancy SDI Presence LLC (SDI) announces the launch of its Apprentice program, with the firm’s first Apprentice transitioning into a full-time employee. SDI’s Apprentice Program is in collaboration with the City Colleges of Chicago, to further its mission to help underrepresented student groups across Chicago excel in information technology, cybersecurity, and consulting. SDI’s Apprentice program has been designed in association with the Chicago Apprentice Network, a driving force behind scaling apprenticeships in the Chicago region.
“SDI is thrilled to work with the City Colleges to create a thoughtful workplace learning program that takes the diverse talent right here in our own backyard and provides them with a pathway to a sustainable career in the high-demand IT sector,” states SDI Presence Chief Executive Officer David Gupta. “We see this apprenticeship program – and others like it in the Chicago Apprentice Network – as key to preparing the future workforce for critical IT jobs that modernize legacy IT infrastructure to drive the digital economy.”
SDI has a long history in workplace learning programming, having over 150 student interns graduate out if its First Chance Initiative programs over the past 20 years. Building on this corporate platform, SDI’s apprentice program draws students pursuing Computer Science and Networking degrees at Wilbur Wright College. SDI’s Apprentices gain hands-on experience working across various internal and project environments and technical teams while finishing their Associate's Degree. The program is designed to supplement SDI’s college recruiting practices and create a pipeline of non-traditional candidates that will transition into full-time roles at SDI.
SDI’s apprenticeship launched in January with SDI’s first apprentice, Maria Rojano, a Computer Science senior at Wilbur Wright College: “SDI’s apprenticeship provided me with an incredible opportunity to connect my academic education with an on-site client experience that reinforced my career choice and provided a road to full-time employment. I’m excited to join the SDI Team and continue to learn and advance my career in tech.”
