Challenge
A major U.S. city’s Department of Aviation required a dedicated and responsive partner to manage the installation, maintenance, repair, and technical support of its mission-critical integrated safety and security systems at two major airports. The system encompassed access control, ID badging, video surveillance, and computer-aided dispatch functionalities, supporting coordination among police, fire, emergency medical services, and airport security.
The department faced the challenge of maintaining a highly complex infrastructure that included tens of thousands of badge holders, thousands of access points, and thousands of cameras, all while integrating emerging technologies and ensuring uninterrupted operations. Additionally, the department required on-site technical support, inventory management, and system upgrades without escalating costs.
Solution
SDI provided comprehensive technical services to maintain and enhance the Integrated Safety, Security, and Operations Communications and Control System (ISSOCCS). This included the development and integration of digital facility maps with the Computer-Aided Dispatch system, event management database development, and ongoing support for access control, ID badging, and video surveillance systems.
The team deployed 35 on-site personnel to manage preventative maintenance, field device moves, software configuration, vendor contract management, and end-user training. SDI also implemented new technologies over time, including biometrics, wireless card readers, intelligent video, license plate recognition, and advanced networking, while ensuring seamless integration and continued system reliability.
