Challenge
A regional energy provider, formed through the acquisition of multiple subsidiaries, faced a fragmented network environment. Each subsidiary operated with different systems, making it difficult to standardize network equipment, enforce security, and maintain regulatory compliance across all locations.
The organization needed a partner capable of managing the full network lifecycle, including assessments, upgrades, patching, and ongoing maintenance. The solution had to balance operational reliability, security, and compliance while coordinating with internal IT staff and minimizing disruption to users.
Solution
A specialized team was deployed, including a senior network engineer, junior engineers, and network apprentices. The team conducted site assessments, developed standardization plans, specified equipment, and executed design, patching, upgrades, and testing. Apprentices applied configuration templates and assisted with lower-level tasks while gaining hands-on experience with advanced networking technologies.
All work was performed in close collaboration with the client’s IT staff and affected users, and post-implementation support was provided to promptly address any issues. The solution encompassed a wide range of technologies, including Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Palo Alto, and Fortinet, as well as advanced routing protocols, security appliances, and network tools.
Services Delivered
- Network assessment, planning, and equipment specification
- Network design, patching, and upgrades
- Configuration template application and deployment
- Testing and as-built documentation delivery
- Post-implementation support and issue resolution
- Support for a wide range of networking technologies, including routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), security appliances (Palo Alto, Fortinet), and network tools (HSRP, VRRP, MPLS, VxLAN, NX-OS, IOS-XE/XR, Wireshark)
Benefit
The project successfully upgraded dozens of sites across the organization on time and in compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements. Standardized networks improved security, performance, and manageability while reducing operational risk.
The inclusion of apprentices not only supported immediate project needs but also developed internal talent for future network operations. The organization now benefits from a scalable, compliant network environment and a strengthened internal skill base to support ongoing IT initiatives.
