Challenge
One of the nation’s largest municipal law enforcement agencies faced an aggressive technology refresh deadline: replacing more than 4,000 end-of-life computers in just six months across dozens of facilities and multiple operational districts.

Agency IT leadership needed real-time visibility into deployment progress and full lifecycle tracking for every device. Without centralized reporting and automated asset management, it would be difficult to ensure audit compliance, maintain chain-of-custody records, and provide accurate status updates to leadership during such a large-scale rollout.

Solution
The agency partnered with a technology services provider to modernize hardware asset tracking and deployment oversight using a centralized service management platform.

The provider implemented advanced hardware asset management capabilities along with mobile and agentless discovery tools to track each device from procurement through deployment. Field technicians used mobile workflows to confirm device installation and location in real time, while automated discovery validated inventory data across the network.

Custom dashboards and reports were developed to give IT leadership immediate visibility into deployment status, asset ownership, and lifecycle health. Integration with the hardware vendor streamlined ordering and ensured that warranty and configuration data was captured automatically at the time of purchase.

IT leadership gained complete transparency into the refresh initiative through real-time dashboards, improving coordination and accountability across districts. The standardized asset management model has since scaled to support thousands of additional devices and expanded to include other critical equipment, strengthening long-term control over public safety technology assets while reducing operational risk.
