SDI In the News: Security cameras help Virginia Tech police make arrests in tire slashings

BLACKSBURG, Va., Nov. 11, 2015 – The Virginia Tech Police Department has arrested two Giles County men in connection with a rash of tire slashings on the Blacksburg campus earlier this month.

Bobby Wayne Reed, 20, of Pembroke, Virginia, and Hunter Stables, 18, of Narrows, Virginia, have each been charged with 14 counts of destruction of property. Each count is a class one misdemeanor and carries a maximum penalty of a $2,500 fine and up to one year in jail. Stables was released on his own recognizance. Reed is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $2,000 bond.

“This is yet another fine example of the use of the university’s security camera system,” said Virginia Tech Chief of Police Kevin Foust.  The Police Department was able to use camera footage to obtain the license plate of the vehicle the suspects were driving.
