IP Video Surveillance and EMC Storage
In April 2011, SDI was awarded a multiple-phase, 3-year contract for the design, coordination, deployment and on-going maintenance of a campus-wide IP video surveillance system for a large University’s main campus and other campus facilities.
The campus is comprised of over 120 buildings, with over 30,000 students. SDI’s initial deployment was the design and execution of a megapixel video surveillance system for a parking garage. This deployment included the provision and installation of a centralized EMC storage array that provides IP video archival.
The centralized security management system is utilized by multiple campus departments, including the police department, IT department, facilities management, and parking control. The University and SDI have instituted a strict acceptable use policy for the cameras and those who monitor them, including ethical and legal guidelines and regulations for archiving and using video footage.
Policy of the program is administered by the five-member Surveillance Oversight Committee, including representatives from university police, student affairs, facilities, emergency management and university relations to review all requests for cameras. The police department, in cooperation with the information technology division, ensures that best practices are followed for all cameras installed.
SDI’s role in the project includes not only the provision, deployment, and coordination of the system, but also includes comprehensive design, layout, and network analysis services.
