Integrated Building Automation Systems Across a University Campus
A large University required a technically knowledgeable partner to support their Building Automation Systems (BAS) in nearly 50 campus buildings. The client’s facilities staff take great pride in maximizing the technical capabilities of their BAS systems, and required a partner with a high level of technical capability and access to leading BAS manufacturing engineers.
As an early adopter of sophisticated BAS technology, the University needed to integrate and migrate three generations of BAS in a well-integrated but progressive manner. Critical elements of this engagement include budget flexibility and a highly technical staff including code level programmers ready to fine tune building systems.
SDI provided and installed a campus-wide BAS for the University, as manufactured by our partner, Schneider Electric, and its predecessor companies. The SDI Team delivered design services, new and retrofit installations, engineering, component sales, efficiency recommendations, and programming and software modifications. More than 20 years of integrated legacy and current systems co-exist and are supported by the SDI Team. Forward-looking “master” integration plans provide guidance for the Facilities Engineers as they consider new projects and retrofit opportunities.
SDI is the system integrator of record for the University’s BAS and has maintained a strong, long-term relationship due to our responsiveness, quality of communication, and facilitating direct connections to factory engineers – connecting them to the “source” of product design. SDI offers unique options to migrate without penalty, and – as an independent integrator – brings best-of-breed solutions to our client. In the case of this University, SDI cooperatively works with our client teams to engineer functionality and integration initiatives within rigid budget and timing constraints.
